CHURCH HISTORY
St. Bernard Baptist Mission was founded in 1996 by Pastor Terrance McCary, a
former associate minister from Franklin Avenue Baptist Church. Pastor McCray
worked very hard with the church but resigned in late 1999 to pursue ministry out
of state. In late November of 1999 Lionel Roberts was named Pastor and the
ministry was rejuvenated. In 2004 the $50,000.00 note of the church was paid off
and it seem like the ministry was coming into its own. The next year Katrina hit
and sent things into a tail spin. Two Building were completely destroyed and only a small fraction of the membership returned to rebuild the church. With support from NOBA and First Baptist California, Missouri we made a fresh start and
changed the name of the Church to Holy Anointed House of Prayer.
Currently the church is in stable condition with 150 people on the roll and an
average of about 70 people in church each Sunday. Sunday school has 20-25 regular attendees while kingdom class usually has about 30 in church attendance and online. Over the years we have baptized at least 12 people a year on average and last year, 35 souls gave their life to Christ. The Church has been known for its free
summer camp and after school programs as well operation OYSTER and STAND.
We continue to flow within house ministries for Men, Women, youth, Seniors,
Singles, Married, Deliverance Group, Music, Ushers, Deacons, Dance and Sports.
